Tooth Decay Paterns

We stress the importance of the child brushing the gums and teeth on a regular basis even though the the child may not be cavity prone. The gums are important too. We want the child to get into the habit of brushing their gums early so that they can carry this into adulthood when it is of the upmost importance

Location

• Chewing surfaces of the teeth

• Decay at the gum line of the teeth

• Decay between the back teeth
• Decay on upper teeth only in a young child.

• Decay on almost every tooth
• Decay in 6 year molars only
​• No cavities

Cause

• Eating surgary food or not brushing properly
​

• Not brushing gums
• Not Flossing
• Frequent bottle feeding.
​

• Acid saliva and eating sugary foods
• Developmental defects
​• Alkaline saliva

Preventative Measures

• Eat less sugar (especially chewing gum) and brush the tops of the teeth
• Brush the gums and teeth
• Floss the back teeth
• Stop the bottle feeding or only put water in the bottle
• Brushing, flossing and avoid sugary foods
• None - Fill teeth ASAP
​• Continue good dental habits.
