The Truth About Your Dentist

The majority of people do not understand the focus of a dentist and what they are trying to do.  Dentists are trained to diagnose and treat dental and oral DISEASE.  They are not trained and educated to minimize your need for dental treatment or decrease your oral DISEASE.  I realized this TRUTH many years ago, because that is the training that I received in dental school.  When a dentist does provide a filling, cleaning, or removal of an infected tooth, the disease is treated and you feel better.  This is good and what you expect to happen.  This is a short term solution to your immediate disease, but it does not improve your long term oral health. Your dentist should have a long-term home care plan other than brushing, flossing, and using a mainstream fluoride toothpaste and mouth rinse.

Your dentist is probably a good person with good intentions.  Many of my patients were previously treated by a mainstream dentist using old school mainstream recommendations and products.  These patients are still experiencing a significant number of cavities and gum disease. They are frustrated and tired of continuing to pay for extensive and expensive dental treatment in the dental office.  I understand, because I practiced this way for many years. My goal was to decrease the need for extensive dental treatment.

After years of observing, interviewing, a evaluating my patients, I found is solution to significantly decrease their frustration and improve their oral health.  THE SOLUTION IS THE DAILY USE OF XYLITOL AT HOME.  You are primarily responsible for your oral and general health, but must have the CORRECT information and products to do it. Most dentists have not taken the time or energy to find a better preventive way to help their patients to avoid complicated dental treatment.

You see your dentist twice a year. Hopefully, you brush and floss DAILY at home.  Bottom line is.......What you do daily at home is much more important than what your dentist does twice a year in the dental office.

Yours for better oral and general health
